Galería de la Raza is proud to be part of The Culture Keepers, a collaborative storytelling project that celebrates the Bay Area’s cultural backbone – the artists, organizers, and storytellers who shape belonging in our neighborhoods.
Join a powerful choir of voices where together, we are lifting up 21 artists whose work reminds us that culture is the foundation of thriving communities.Explore their stories and learn how we see cultural connections across generations, lineages, and movements. We invite you to meet the culture keepers in your midst; recognize their work as medicine and infrastructure; and invest deeply (for the long term), as an act of cultural repair. As one of the two featured anchor organizations, Galería de la Raza is featured as a visionary by nominating artists for this project, revisiting our archive and working with our community to highlight our history and tell the story of the cultural currents of the region. In this collaboration, we helped tell the stories of Bay Area artist-practitioners and instrumental organizers who center culture in their work. The Culture Keepers also spotlights the legacy of Galería and the individuals who shaped the organization.
