Bio & Project Information
Evelyn Donají Arellano (she/ella) is a queer Chicana folk musician and multidisciplinary artist based in San Francisco. She leads the all-femme Son Jarocho and Arabic folk project, Corazón de Cedro. She is currently focused on organizing musical performances and fandanguitos that celebrate and uplift queer and femme voices within the Son Jarocho tradition.
Evelyn has been a featured artist at Galeria de la Raza’s Lunada Literary Lounge and has performed at Accion Latina’s Paseo Artistico, Medicine for Nightmares, SOMArts, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and the SF International Flor Y Canto Literary Festival. In addition to Corazón de Cedro, Evelyn co-founded and organized with Colectivo CalleSon and has performed with local groups including AntiFaSon and Camellia Boutros band. Evelyn holds degrees in Sociology and Latin American and Latina/o Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She currently works at the cultural portal Medicine for Nightmares Bookstore and Gallery.
Evelyn will use the ReGen Artist Fund to produce a series of queer community fandanguitos and an engaging performance by the all-femme Son Jarocho and Arabic folk group, Corazón de Cedro, to take place in 2025. It will also support the artistic development of her practice and expand Corazón de Cedro’s unique musical repertoire.
