Bio & Project Information
Hosanna “Anna” Raquel Colom is a second-generation Mexican-Nicaraguan tattoo artist born and raised in San Francisco. Her passion for the visual arts ignited at the age of nine at her local Boys and Girls Club. While she has explored various mediums, visual art is her first love and particularly enjoys working with watercolor and ballpoint pen.
Colom’s work is deeply influenced by a blend of Chicano art, Latinx folk art and the vibrant street art of the Bay Area. This fusion reflects her rich cultural heritage and city upbringing, seamlessly blending into her tattoo practice.
Over the years, Anna has taken numerous art classes and actively participated in DIY group art
shows and pop-up events. Since 2023, she has contributed to Artspan’s Excelsior Art Initiative,
creating vibrant window paintings for local businesses. Additionally, she was featured in
Artspan’s Art in Neighborhoods exhibition at District 11 Asha’s Safai office in City Hall, showcasing the work of local female artists from the Excelsior.
Currently, Anna tattoos full-time at Mom’s Body Shop, focusing on Chicano fineline and lettering as well as American traditional tattooing.
The ReGen Artist Fund will lead Anna to creating and documenting safe tattooing spaces for
BIPOC queer individuals in the Excelsior, Mission and Bayview districts. This project will highlight tattooing as an act of resistance, empowerment, and expression. It will culminate in visual and multimedia work that will create a dialogue between the tattoo, the individual, and the largersocial context, showcasing the significance of tattooing as both a personal and collective act.
