Alexa “LexMex’’ Treviño is a first-generation Mexican American photographer and artist based in the vibrant Mission District of San Francisco. Her artistic practice focuses on storytelling through photography, where she pays homage to her ancestors, celebrates her culture, and advocates for the dignified representation of marginalized communities.
With over a decade of experience in both studio and location photography, Treviño has
honed her craft, specializing in the mastery of strobe lighting techniques. She is a YBCA
100 artist honoree and an exhibiting artist at the esteemed DeYoung Museum.
Treviño’s photographic endeavors have garnered attention from prestigious publications
such as Forbes, NYT, NPR, + KQED, as well as various local platforms. Among her proudest
achievements is the creation of the Corazon de la Mission Photo-Mural, prominently
displayed at the corner of 24th St. & Folsom in the Mission. This impactful series of
eight 10-foot portraits celebrates the vibrant LatinX community members who are the
heartbeat of our neighborhood.
Treviño’s project under the ReGen Artist Fund will demonstrate the resilience of BIPOC/
immigrant women residing within the 10 cultural districts of San Francisco. This project
will be a representation of their lineage, culture, and resilience, and will show the
positive effects of their representation in the City through portraiture, video, and audio
documentation for a dignified and accurate representation of these communities.
