Curated by Dino Piacentini, Galería's annual Day of the Dead show examined two key events in American history: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (of which 1998 is the sesquicentennial) and the Spanish-American War (of which 1998 is the centennial). The exhibition featured artists from diverse cultural backgrounds reflecting the communities most powerfully affected by these historic events (i.e. Chicanos, Filipinos, Native Americans, Cubanos, and Puertorriqueños
