Enrique Chagoya
Born in Mexico City in the mid-fifties and a San Franciscan for over twenty years, Enrique Chagoya creates multilayered imagery, a conceptual fusion of opposite cultural realities, which comments on the changing nature of culture. Chagoya juxtaposes images in absurd and humorous ways, often referencing pre-Columbian mythology, Catholic symbolism, pop culture, and art history. Chagoya is currently Associate Professor of Art at Stanford University, where he received the Dean's Award in the Humanities in 1998.
