LA-based Richard Montoya is a founding member of the satirical performance trio Culture Clash. Montoya became involved at an early age with art and politics and in particular with the potent mix of Chicano aesthetics and activism. Galería de la Raza became Culture Clash’s first home when the troupe was founded in 1984, under the mentorship of René Yañez. Since then, the troupe along with Ric Salinas and Herbert Siguenza has performed its political theater nationwide. Like his father José Montoya —the legendary Chicano artist, poet and musician— Richard is a multifaceted writer, poet, and talented graphic artist.
