Liliana Porter

Liliana Porter was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1941. She began her studies of printmaking in Mexico City at the Universidad Iberoamericana in 1961, and graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Buenos Aires in 1963. In 1964 she moved to New York City where she created social commentary through Pop imagery. She founded the New York Graphic Workshop in 1965 with José Guillermo Castillo and Luis Camnitzer. From that point on her work has become conceptual and more subtle, playing with reality, illusion, and memories. Her main inspiration comes from her own childhood memories, American pop-icons, and Jorge Luis Borges. She currently lives in New York.
