Felipe Dulzaides
Video and performance artist Felipe Dulzaides was born in Havana, Cuba (1965), into a family of musicians and poets.
Dulzaides received a BFA from the Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana, Cuba (1988) in drama. After moving to the U.S. in 1992, he graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute (MFA, 2001).
Dulzaides received a Cintas Fellowship (2001), a Bay Area award from New Langton Arts, San Francisco (2002), and a 2003 Fellowship from the Headlands Center for the Arts. His videos, sculptures, and public artworks have been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe and Cuba.
Working in a liminal space between two distinct cultural logics, Dulzaides' works enhance the fleeting nature of the familiar. His work is subtly humorous, evocative, ephemeral and often task-oriented as in the early performances of Vito Acconci and Bruce Nauman.
