Galería de la Raza is pleased to announce our fourth annual round of GINAA grants to support Native American and Indigenous artists who reside in the San Francisco/Bay Area. In order to apply, all grant applicants are required to attend a free two-day workshop at Galería.

In March, LUNADA honors mother tongues, women’s voices and stories, as the full moon rises on Dia Internacional de la Mujer, International Women’s Day. Featured poets: Leticia Hernandez-Linares, and YeYe Suarez. Hosted by Sandra Garcia Rivera.

Galería is proud to welcome Malaquias Montoya and Tere Romo for the release and book signing of Malaquias Montoya, the latest volume in the CSRC Press’s award-winning A Ver: Revisioning Art History series, and the first major book on the influential Chicano painter and printmaker, Malaquias Montoya.

Galeria is pleased to present the final project from our Youth Media Project's Fall 2011 class, "Design=Power: Adventures in Graphics" as part of our ongoing Digital Mural series.

As we embrace the vibrant energy of Fall, and the approaching winter solstice, Galeria is proud to celebrate the close of another wonderful season of LUNADA Literary Lounge & Open, with Guest Curator & Host Alejandra Mojica.

Galeria will host a series of free workshops where participants will be led through an exploration of each of three essential elements of the son jarocho of Southern Veracruz - music and playing technique (with a focus on the requinto and jarana), poetry and dance.

Galeria de la Raza is pleased to present, "LOSING COUNT - CUENTAS PERDIDAS" an exhibition of works on paper from the collective Artistas En Lucha Por La Paz curated by Luis Pinedo.  

 

Reno, NV artist Crystal Gonzales utilizes imagery of prohibitions and how it reads in the contemporary world for the basis behind her work. Both a painter and an animator, join us as Crystal will be discussing techniques and influences for her large-scale pieces.

Long time San Francisco activist Nora Roman and her new band the Border Busters will celebrate the release of her 12 song CD I Belong to No Man’s State at a benefit for the Galeria on Saturday, July 9!

Curated by John Jota Leaños and Carolina Ponce de León - featuring the works of Natalia Anciso, Marylene Camacho, Eduardo Gomez, Roberto Gomez, Crystal Gonzalez, Alex Hernandez, Monique Lopez, Bruna Massadas, Senalka McDonald, Neil Rivas, Abel Rodriguez, and Maria Guadalupe Torres

Artists Nube F. Cruz and Jean Melesaine present a gallery of photography, acryllic painted walls, wheat paste, stencils and mixed media to create a prayer of identity on queer indigenous identity In Studio 24 debuts “Jot@s, Studs, Fa'afafines, and homothugs to the 2nd Spirit Opening” (2010 GINAA award), a visual art and photography exhibit. The show hopes to explore intersections among indigenous, queer, and gender-variant youth and young adults are explored in what each of those categories entail. Both exhibitions represent a young voice and fresh face for new art being created.
